What is a safe rope to use for my Birds?

Jute and Sissal rope is safe because the fibers, if ingested, will break down and move through the birds digestive system. Other types of rope (like cotton) can impact the  gizzard and result in a very costly surgery or death of the bird.

Make sure rope has had no treatment; A some have mineral oil and insecticides added for export purposes.

Seagrass and hemp rope are also safe ... and you can also use leather but make sure it's vegetable-oil tanned.

See our Blog on Cotton Rope and other dangerous products.
